Roll-to-roll prelithiation of lithium-ion battery anodes by transfer printing

Abstract Prelithiation can boost the performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). A cost-effective prelithiation strategy with high quality and industrial compatibility is urgently required. Herein we developed a roll-to-roll electrodeposition transfer-printing system for continuous LIB anodes. By calendering, pre-manufactured anodes could be fully transfer-printed onto electrodeposited lithium metal. The interface separation adhesion during transfer printing were related to interfacial shear compressive stress, respectively. With facile prelithiation, initial Coulombic efficiencies 99.99% 99.05% achieved in graphite silicon/carbon composite electrode half cells, energy densities full cells observed significantly improved prelithiated electrodes. provides high-performance, controllable, scalable industry-adaptable LIBs.
